Before creating a portrait, I try to create a connection with the subject. Without the right connection, a natural result is not possible. To achieve this takes time, but as we all know, it takes time to do things well. I always try to work under the most natural and spontaneous conditions possible, and I find that this is the only way to bring out the true self. I therefore love natural environments rather than a studio, and even if I work in a studio, it is often a 'home studio', so that my subject can be as comfortable as possible in front of my lens.
